Last night I went to go and see the new Star Trek movie and I was seriously impressed. Good acting, gripping action, edge of your seat special effects and a solid plot with some very subtle nods to the early series. I am still and always will be a bigger fan of Star Wars (May the fourth be with you, always), but I agree with BrockleyBoyo:

THAT, Mr Lucas, is how you make a prequel!”

— Mark Kermode, on accents in films. I agree with him that films really ought to be made in the language most relevant to the film, rather than the one most relevant to the audience.

Collaborative Watching

I went to the cinema after the session and found that the Curzon Soho’s wireless extends throughout the building, including covering the screens themselves. I twittered as such from the 5th row, wondering aloud whether we could have a silent collaborative viewing of a film, communicating through networked text alone. This does, of course, ignore the annoyance of the tapping of keys and the light of screens, but until we get ocular implants…”
