August Bank Holiday Weekend

27 August, 2008 - 09:14

Suddenly the bank holiday weekend creapt up on us and we had absolutely no plans for it at all. Instead, we just made it up as we went along. On Saturday morning we went to Decathlon at Canada Water and bought ourselves a new pair of inline skates each. From there we skated along the river to just before London Bridge where we took the skates off. We then spent a few hours in Borough Market. After that we took the skates to Hyde Park for some practice time and realised that cycle lanes in parks are a bad idea on blades. On Sunday we went to go and see part of Notting Hill Carnival which wasn’t all that exciting as the main day is Monday and we found family day, however spending a relaxing hour in the pub with friends afterwards was reward in itself. Monday we did very little in the morning, but the afternoon saw us head off on the skates to Leicester square to catch Kung Fu Panda in the cinema: absolutely hilarious. The number of little jokes they managed to squeeze in about junior Kung Fu students, their misconceptions, unfounded arrogance and annoying habits had me in stitches as it reminded me so much of my own early days of training. Definitely don’t miss this if you are a fan of martial arts, it is very well done. After that we again headed to Hyde park for some blading practice and to marvel at the guys who obviously spend much of their time standing on wheels.
